Network Marketing: The Art of The Close

There are plenty of people who are involved in a network marketing company, but just aren't seeing the results that they want. They may be generating plenty of leads, but not signing any of them up. This is a problem. Although you might feel great about all the leads you're generating now, that feeling will wear off when you realize you're not making any money. You can generate all the leads that you want, but if you don't know how to close and sign them up, they don't mean a thing and someone who does know how to close will sign them up. It is extremely common for someone to come on way too strong when pitching their opportunity. They are so focused on getting a sale that they actually lose themselves a sale. They keep hammering the information into the potential prospects head. They keep talking about how great the opportunity is and how great the compensation plan is and how you can make quick money. This will not result in a sale. More often than not, this will deter the prospect from joining. They can sense how desperate you are to get a sale. Giving this vibe to a prospect does two things: 1. It places doubt in their minds because if you seem desperate to get sales, the prospect is going to think that you're struggling. If you're struggling and they're going to work with you, what makes them think that they're not going to struggle as well? 2. It gives them the power. You're sense of urgency makes them feel like you need them which should not be the case. They will not answer your phones calls or give you the "run around" because they know that you will continue to call them back. To simply sum up those last two points, IF YOU COME OFF LIKE YOU ARE SELLING SOMETHING, YOU ARE GOING TO TURN PEOPLE AWAY. It's a very simple concept that Mike Dillard talks about in his Magnetic Sponsoring book. People do not like to be sold. They like to have the feeling that they are in control of the decisions that they make. So now the question becomes "How am I supposed to sell my opportunity without trying to sell my opportunity?" Well, I will be glad to answer that. First and foremost, you have to understand what this business is all about and that's building relationships with people. So when talking to someone, don't listen to them for 30 seconds and then pitch them on your opportunity. Just don't do it because IT WILL NOT WORK. Have a legitimate conversation with them. Get to know them. Ask them questions because asking questions is what's going to help you learn about your prospects and questions give you control of the conversation. Dig for their need. Find out what an extra couple hundred, or couple thousand dollars a month would mean to them. This is huge because this is what's going to get the wheels turning in their head. This is what will get them to associate your opportunity, with the solution to their problem/need. Once you figure out there need ask them if they were serious about it. They have to say yes to this. They just told you their problem, they are not going to tell you they weren't serious about it. Once they say yes, you say "If you are serious and I could show you a way to [insert need here], would you be open? This is a line that Ray Higdon, network marketing genius, swears by. Using the word open is key. Nobody wants to be non-open, but people are uninterested in products all the time. The prospect will now answer yes to being open, they have to. They told you their problem, they said they were serious, so of course they're going to be open to something that can satisfy their need. There may be some of you out their reading this going "Wow Steve, that's great. We have them right where we want them so now we can go in for the sale right?" WRONG! If this is your first time speaking to this person it's still way too early on in the relationship to try to sign them up. You're simply going to tell them you're busy and you have to run. Get their information and tell them you will send them some more information. You do not want to talk too much. You want to get in there, discover their need, get their information, and get out. If you talk too much you might just talk yourself right out of a sale. So there you have it. It's that simple to close. Always remember that building relationships and truly wanting to help others is what will bring you success. If you're only in network marketing to sell your opportunity and make money for yourself, it's never going to work for you. You have to be willing to help others along the way. You now have the knowledge to go out their and close, all you have to do is go out there and get it done.
